England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt to miss next two Women's T20 World Cup matches with calf injury

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of her side's next two matches at the Women's T20 World Cup with a calf injury sustained in Tuesday's win over Ireland.

Sciver-Brunt retired out on 48 in Southampton, with an ECB statement released later in the night saying that was a precautionary measure due to calf tightness.

The 33-year-old underwent a scan on Wednesday and after further assessment from the England medical team will now sit out Saturday's encounter with Scotland at Headingley as well as next Wednesday's meeting with West Indies at Lord's.

Sciver-Brunt was sidelined from late April to earlier this month after suffering an injury to the same calf while playing for The Blaze in domestic cricket.

Off-spinner Charlie Dean will deputise as England captain in Sciver-Brunt's absence, just as she did for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand and T20Is versus India earlier this summer.

Sciver-Brunt - who appears likely to be replaced in the XI by Sophia Dunkley - will remain with the England squad during her rehab.

England are two from two at the World Cup, with the four-wicket success against Ireland at the Hampshire Bowl following an 87-run demolition of Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on opening night.

Sciver-Brunt played as a specialist batter versus Sri Lanka and Ireland, hitting 46 not out from 22 balls against the former as her team piled on a tournament-record 219-1 in Birmingham.

Her knock of 48 in the Ireland match helped rally England from 35-3 as they reached a target of 119 with 15 balls to spare.

The hosts will now hope to have their captain back in action for the final group game against defending T20 World Cup champions New Zealand at The Kia Oval on Saturday June 27.

The semi-finals take place on June 30 and July 2 respectively, ahead of the final on July 5.
